A nation of children from all socio-economic/racial lines need a citizen-led force to protect them from terrorism within our own borders. So many dangers in this culture and so few -- or so it seems -- citizens who give a flip about what kids face on our streets. It isn't my kid. It doesn't happen here.
Until it is your kid and it did happen here.
Now what?
Simply put, the purpose of this commentary is to put perpetrators AND everyday citizens on notice: The CommunityWatch/NationWatch Child Safety Initiative starts this day this moment.
Kid Protection Network has information on how to start your local initiative. We are not the only group out there with good intentions and resources to call on to help kids in a law-abiding, united fashion. If you know of one POWER OF ONE! join and be supportive!
Law-abiding and united. Bring in the ranks of mayor, police chief, superintendent of schools, one person at a time. State legislators and your members of Congress. All united on this noble bi-partisan mission!
Next time you see a cop THANK THEM for their service to your community. Join them in a partnership and create a CommunityWatch!
Get to know the issues and DO SOMETHING! Join law-enforcement in a partnership that creates a CommunityWatch process. And, by the way, while we are doing this we tell our heroes in the military serving overseas fighting that kind of terrorism protecting our liberty and freedoms we are telling them: While you are gone we have your back!
If not, the perpetrator crowd whose whole life revolves around finding their next child victim thanks you for your apathy, indifference, and selfish no-care attitude will strike again and again.
NOT ON OUR WATCH!
What if the so-called Village to Raise a Child left you out of the safety equation? They were just plain lazy? You were brown, black, not from the right side of the tracks? It never happened in YOUR precious community!
There goes another child to the grave.
